[07-20-2022] Lake County, CA- 43-year old Pedestrian Killed in DUI Crash in ClearlakeAccording to the Clearlake Police Department, a pedestrian was killed after being struck by a DUI driver on Wednesday, July 20, 2022.

The police reported that the crash occurred on Highway 53 at 18th Avenue in Clearlake and claimed the life of 43-year-old Clearlake resident James Torrey Jr.

The collision involved a Toyota Tacoma driven by James Nielsen, 27, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol.

Torrey suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, while Nielsen suffered minor injuries.

Officers arrested Nielsen on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and vehicular manslaughter as a result of the investigation and based on probable cause.

According to jail records, he was booked into the Lake County Jail and released later that day.
