Fatal Pedestrian Accident Statistics

It’s a lot of fun to skateboard, but there’s a lot of potential for injury. An annual trip to the emergency room is necessary for about 70,000 injuries.

In 2017, more than 98,000 patients who had an injury while skating were seen in hospital emergency rooms. Over 47,000 people aged 15 to 24 sustained injuries, according to Injury Facts.

The term “pedestrian” refers to various non-motorized modes of transportation, such as skaters, rollerbladers, scooters (not electric), skiers, and ice skaters.

In California, skateboarders were considered pedestrians, making it acceptable to use a skateboard in a crosswalk. Skateboarders move quickly, so a moving vehicle will have less time to see them on the road.

Many injuries can result when a child stumbles, falls off a skateboard, and lands on an extended arm. Skateboarding frequently results in face, wrist, and ankle injuries.
