According to the police, a 20-year-old pedestrian woman was fatally struck in a hit-and-run by a 22-year-old man suspected of being under drugs in El Cajon Wednesday night, July 27, 2022.
According to the El Cajon Police Department, the crash occurred at 8:49 p.m. on the 600 block of North Second Street.
According to Lt. Darrin Forster of the El Cajon Police Department, the victim was discovered by the police on the road close to the Second Street on-ramp to Interstate 8.
When the police arrived, they discovered a man in the silver 2006 Hyundai Sonata driver’s seat. A traffic signal light was hanging from the Sonata, which had front-end damage.
When the Sonata drove onto the sidewalk in front of the pedestrian, who was standing on the sidewalk close to the crosswalk in front of 601 N. Second St., police determined after conducting a preliminary investigation of the scene and speaking with witnesses.
After the victim was thrown into the street, the Sonata continued north, hit a street sign and a traffic light, turned east onto Naranca, and finally came to a stop in the middle of the street in front of 1300 Naranca Ave.
The male driver was found to have been under the influence of a controlled narcotic substance at the time of the collision, according to police.
Police did not immediately identify the suspect or the victim.
