Motorcycle Accident Statistics

The Insurance Information Institute has released some statistics regarding the seriousness of motorcycle accidents in the US. Motorcycle accidents claimed the lives of more than 5,000 people in 2018.

What exactly makes riding a motorcycle so dangerous, then? This dangerously high fatality rate is a result of numerous factors. Lack of security is the main worry.

Motorcycle riders were still 27 times more likely to die in a car accident per mile traveled than passengers in passenger vehicles, despite a 5 percent drop from 2017.

Many different things can go wrong in a motorcycle accident. Minor injuries can result from a driver making a sharp turn too quickly and hitting the gravel, even if traveling at a low speed. Poor road conditions and vehicle failure can cause motorcycle accidents at higher speeds.

Motorcycle riders must always follow the posted speed limit. Due to the state of the roads, driving at the posted speed limit can be hazardous. In weather that reduces visibility or makes the road slick, such as rain, snow, sleet, or hail, drive more slowly.

Riders of motorcycles should also put on the appropriate safety gear. A fitting helmet, riding boots, gloves, and leathers, should always be worn by riders. When you purchase from a store, you can be certain that the equipment you receive fits you well. Additionally, a manufacturer’s warranty will protect you. These protections may not cover the equipment you buy online or through resale.
