[07-29-2024] Los Angeles County, CA – Four People Hospitalized After Police Chase Led to Multi-Vehicle Crash in Long Beach

[07-29-2024] Four People Hospitalized After Police Chase Led to Multi-Vehicle Crash in Long BeachFour people were hospitalized after a police chase led to a multi-vehicle crash in Long Beach on Monday afternoon, July 29, 2024.

According to the Long Beach Police Department, the incident happened just before 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of 4th Street and Cherry Avenue.

Initial reports suggested that the driver of an allegedly stolen vehicle was leading the LBPD in a high-speed chase when it ran a red light on 4th Street and Cherry Avenue, causing a violent collision against another vehicle going south on Cherry Avenue.

The collision caused the suspect vehicle to careen toward three unoccupied parked vehicles on the side of the road, ultimately striking them. The adult male driver of the suspect vehicle reportedly jumped out of the wreckage and attempted to flee the scene on foot. He was later arrested in the 2000 block of Florida Street.

The fleeing driver had a passenger with him when the accident occurred. Video captured from the scene showed the passenger trapped in the wreckage before being extricated by the responding officials. Both suspects were taken to the hospital with upper body injuries and are currently listed in stable condition.

Two men from the vehicle that struck the suspects at the intersection also suffered from upper-body injuries. Both of them were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The identities of the two victims were not provided.

Authorities closed off the intersection where the crash happened as a precaution while investigating and clearing the debris.

Police work is underway.

What Should You Do After A Long Beach Car Accident?

First, you should check on all passengers, drivers, and pedestrians involved. If they need medical help, call for an ambulance immediately. Make sure that you don’t move anyone who is unconscious or reports back or neck pain unless their life is in imminent danger, for example, from a fire or oncoming traffic. Since car accidents are unexpected, you also need to do the following:

  1. Call the police to report any deaths, injuries, or substantial property damage. Get the names and badge numbers of the officers who are at the scene of the accident. Later, call the police department and request an accident report.
  2. Take pictures of all parties involved, including their driver’s licenses, insurance cards, and respective vehicles. Remember to capture any visible damages, skid marks, and the vehicles’ points of rest.
  3. Take note of the street names, traffic lights, and signs.
  4. Talk to the witnesses and obtain their phone numbers and addresses.
  5. Preserve evidence by taking pictures of your injuries.
  6. Seek medical attention, even if you feel like your injuries are minor.
  7. Call our injury law firm’s California reckless driving accident lawyer for a free case review. We can determine whether your case has merit, secure accident reports and other critical documents for you, assist with insurance negotiations, and help with filing a personal injury claim.
