[07-30-2022] San Luis Obispo County, CA - 63-Year-Old Man Killed and Another Seriously Injured in Crash on Tank Farm RoadA 63-year-old man was killed, and another person was critically injured in a two-vehicle collision in San Luis Obispo early Saturday morning, July 30, 2022.

According to a California Highway Patrol (CHP) press release, CHP dispatch received a 911 report at about 8:14 a.m. for a motor vehicle collision on Tank Farm Road.

According to the release, the incident involved two vehicles: a 2003 Volkswagen and a 2012 Chevrolet.

According to the CHP, the Volkswagen was westbound on Tank Farm Road when the Chevrolet crossed into the opposing traffic lane, resulting in the incident.

First responders discovered that the Chevrolet driver had suffered serious injuries, while the Volkswagen driver had fatal injuries and was declared dead.

As of early Saturday afternoon, the Volkswagen driver had not been identified, pending notification of the family.

According to the release, the driver of the Chevrolet, David Downs, 62, of Morro Bay, was taken to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo for treatment.

Downs was detained on suspicion of murder, gross vehicular manslaughter, and driving under the influence of a drug, causing injury or death.

As of early Saturday afternoon, he was not listed as being in the custody of the San Luis Obispo County Jail.

The case remained under investigation.
