[08-05-2022] San Mateo County, CA - A Police Officer was Injured After a Hit-and-Run Accident on San Mateo AvenueA South San Francisco Police officer was dragged to the ground and sustained non-life-threatening injuries after a Friday afternoon hit-and-run accident on San Mateo Avenue.

The accident happened around 5:18 p.m. in the 1000 block of San Mateo Avenue.

According to the SHPD spokesperson, officers pulled over the car after spotting a violation of the vehicle code.

The officers were questioning the male driver during the traffic stop, but he abruptly restarted his car and accelerated quickly.

A car chase started, which ended when the man crashed into two parked cars in San Bruno after throwing a loaded gun out of his car window.

The suspect, Vincent Lewis H., 31, of East Palo Alto, was detained in custody. Additionally, they discovered he had burglary tools.

Harris took them to the county jail in San Mateo. Aside from assaulting a police officer, they charged Harris with illegally possessing firearms.

The injured policeman received care at a nearby hospital before being released.
