[08-05-2022] Ventura County, CA- 14-year-old Boy Suffers Brain Injury after being Struck by Vehicle while Riding Bike in Camarillo Parking LotAccording to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, a 14-year-old boy suffered a brain injury after being hit by a car while riding his bike in Camarillo on Friday early this month, August 05, 2022.

According to the authorities, the crash happened around 12:25 p.m. on August 5 along Promenade Drive south of East Ventura Boulevard. The accident occurred near the Camarillo Premium Outlets.

According to the investigation, two 14-year-old boys were riding their bicycles through a parking lot when hit by a vehicle traveling south.

According to officials, the boys were taken to the hospital while the driver, a 68-year-old woman, remained at the scene.

A video from the scene shows one of the boys being treated on a gurney while alerting. According to Senior Deputy Luke Riordan, he suffered minor injuries and is recovering at home.

According to the other boy’s mother, a truck yielded to the victims, but another vehicle went around the truck and struck them.

Her son, Ethan Jordan, she claimed, was pinned under the car and dragged a few feet.

He didn’t have a pulse when paramedics arrived.

Nova Jordan stated that her son’s brain injury was severe because he did not receive oxygen for 20 minutes following the crash.

According to a GoFundMe page to assist the family, Ethan also suffered a collapsed lung, a cracked sternum, fractured L5 vertebrae, and severe road rash.

“It’s day to day right now,” says the fundraising page. “We won’t know the extent of his brain damage from being without oxygen for an extended period, but we’re all hopeful and optimistic.”

Ethan is referred to as a “good kid.”

“He’s the type of kid you want your child to be friends with, and luckily for me, mine is.” “He’s extremely respectful, helpful, and caring,” according to the GoFundMe page.

FATAL BICYCLE ACCIDENT STATISTICS

Under California law, bicycles are considered vehicles. Motorists and cyclists must follow the same traffic laws to avoid collisions. They must stop and ride straight when they come to a red light.

The same rules apply to bicycles and other modes of transportation, such as vehicles. They can ride in the street without a designated bike lane. Drivers frequently ignore or attempt to pass cyclists riding too close to the road.

In 2016, 840 cyclists were killed by cars, accounting for 2% of all traffic fatalities, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Every year, California has the highest number of bicycle fatalities. Between 2016 and 2018, more than 400 cyclists were killed in traffic accidents in California.

Wearing a helmet, maintaining your tires and brakes regularly, and keeping your body proportionate to the size of your bike are all effective bicycle safety measures.
