[08-06-2022] Plumas County, CA - Two People Injured in Single-Vehicle Crash Near PortolaAccording to the California Highway Patrol, a single-vehicle collision resulted in injuries near Portola Saturday, August 6, 2022.

The crash occurred at approximately 7:47 p.m. on Genesee Road, 1.3 miles west of Grizzly Road near Portola.

The CHP reported that Landon W., 18, of La Jolla, California, was a passenger in Stefan V.’s 1984 Volkswagen Rabbit, who was 21 years old and from Fairfax, California.

It is unclear why Venne veered off the south side of Genesee Road and into a tree. Venne was moving eastbound on Genesee Road at an unknown speed.

The Volkswagen spun counterclockwise after the collision and came to rest against the tree.

Watson was able to climb out of the Volkswagen and get assistance from a nearby resident even though Venne was trapped inside.

When emergency responders arrived, they started Venne’s extraction. Venne and Watson were flown by helicopter to Renown Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Investigations into the crash’s cause are ongoing.
