[08-07-2022] Merced County, CA - Three People Killed in Fatal Head-On Crash Near Santa Fe DriveAccording to California Highway Patrol officers, three unidentified people were killed in a fatal two-vehicle collision early near Merced on Sunday morning, August 7, 2022.

The collision occurred around 6:00 a.m. west of Franklin Road, close to Santa Fe Drive.

According to CHP, a 34-year-old Merced man was operating a Jeep in the westbound lanes of Santa Fe Drive, west of Franklin Road.

According to investigators, a Nissan was being driven by a 38-year-old Turlock woman on Santa Fe Drive, west of Franklin Road.

The CHP reported that the Jeep driver struck the Nissan head-on for an unknown reason after driving directly in its path.

The CHP further stated that the 34-year-old Merced woman in the Jeep without a seatbelt also died at the scene.

According to CHP, the crash’s cause is still under investigation, and it is unclear whether DUI played a role.
