Six people, including a maintenance worker, were injured after an apartment fire in Chula Vista on Tuesday evening, August 8, 2023.
The Chula Vista Fire Department, Chula Vista Police Department, and National City Fire Department responded to the accident around 4:44 p.m. on the 400 block of Oaklawn Avenue.
With fire bursting from its entrance, Vistan Apartment Homes had been consumed in flames. Before the firefighters arrived, three of the house’s children managed to flee. Due to the fire advancing on the front door of another unit, two people could not escape.
As the women struggled to escape the flames, two maintenance workers knocked out a window and pulled them through.
The fire inflicted minor injuries to six people. Two of them, including the maintenance worker, have been hospitalized.
The identities of the victims have not been released. Numerous evacuees from the fire received housing assistance from the Red Cross.
The cause of the fire is currently being looked into.
