According to the responding officials, the incident occurred around 6:00 p.m. at a neighborhood in Simi Valley off Windmill Way.

The brutal pit bull attack was captured on surveillance video. In the video, a neighbor can be seen holding a gun behind his back as he attempts to intervene, asking the victim if he should shoot the dog. Without receiving a response, he tried to scare the dog away by hitting it and making noise, but the pit bull did not release its grip.

The video, which lasts about nine minutes, shows the attack continuing until police and firefighters arrived to break it up. The injured man, who declined to speak on camera, and his pet dog both suffered serious injuries.

Despite the severity of the attack, neighbors are concerned that the pit bull responsible remains in the neighborhood. According to the neighbor, Ventura County Animal Services did not take the dog away, citing overcrowding as the reason.
