[08-10-2022] Los Angeles County, CA - Small Plane Crashed into a Truck with Three People Inside on California's 91 FreewayThree people traveling in a truck were hit by an aircraft on California’s 91 Freeway on Wednesday, August 10, 2022.

The crash happened around 12:35 p.m., 45 minutes east of downtown Los Angeles on the highway.

According to authorities, an engine failure caused a single-engine plane carrying a pilot and one passenger to break apart after hitting the truck and burst into flames.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, neither of the two people inside the aircraft suffered any injuries.

According to NBC Los Angeles, three passengers in the truck were also unharmed.

Corona Fire Department arrived on the scene right away.

Dramatic video captured the moment the single-engine Piper PA-32 plane descended from the sky onto the eastbound lanes of State Route 91 close to Lincoln Avenue in Corona.

Firefighters from the Corona Fire Department were seen on camera dousing the on-fire aircraft with water.

The pilot, Andrew Cho, told the Los Angeles television station KTLA that he was able to land the plane in congested traffic because of his training.

The pilot, Andrew Cho, claimed to have left earlier in the day for a brief trip from the nearby Corona Municipal Airport. His plane abruptly lost power as he returned to the airport, forcing him to find a place to land on a highway.

According to him, hitting other cars was his “biggest fear.” “I decided to just head for the gap because I saw enough of it.”

Charter Plane Crash Statistics

While flying is one of the safest forms of transportation, plane accidents frequently have disastrous outcomes. There were no minor airplane collisions or crash landings. Instead, these occurrences are catastrophic, irreversible tragedies. Although there have been fewer plane accidents recently, the rising popularity of private jet and helicopter travel could soon buck this trend.

The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) keeps statistics on aviation accidents and investigates aviation mishaps. Nearly 24 million flight hours were estimated to have been flown in total in 2007 by the National Transportation Safety Board. In these 24 million flight hours, there were 6.84 crashes for every 100,000 and 1.19 fatal crashes for every 100,000.

This has decreased from an all-time high of 9.08 accidents per 100,000 hours in 1994. These figures are higher for private flights, but due to lax government regulation and non-reporting, private flights are much more challenging to record. Since the 1980s, private plane crashes have decreased, but user error and inadequate training continue to cause far more accidents than what is required annually.
