According to authorities, a 34-year-old woman was injured in a collision with a deputy from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department’s Imperial Beach Substation in Imperial Beach on Wednesday, August 10, 2022.
According to Sgt. Robert Posada, the collision happened around 5:16 p.m. at Coronado Avenue and Hollister Street intersection.
The sheriff’s office stated that a deputy was on his way to a “priority emergency call” in a department patrol vehicle with lights and siren activated. The deputy then came to a complete stop on Coronado Avenue near Hollister Street.
According to SDSO, the deputy entered the intersection after checking for opposing traffic. The woman, driving a white Ford Mustang coupe, entered the intersection from the Interstate 5 off-ramp at that time, according to the sheriff’s department.
The patrol car hit the Mustang in the side.
The driver complained of back pain and was taken to a hospital for further evaluation and treatment, according to SDSO. The deputy was not hurt in the accident.
According to Posada, neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor in the collision.
