[08-10-2022] Ventura County, CA - Pedestrian Woman Struck and Killed by Vehicle on Highway 101A pedestrian, later identified as 68-year-old Mary C. of Ventura, died after getting struck by a vehicle on the Pacific Coast Highway near Solimar Beach, north of Ventura, on Wednesday, August 10, 2022.

The accident was reported shortly after 9:20 a.m. on the southbound shoulder of the coastal highway between Solimar and Emma Wood State Beach.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Centeno was walking along a roughly 6-mile stretch of the coastal highway (known as the old PCH) when a 2003 GMC 3500 dually pickup truck driven by a 61-year-old Oak View man traveling southbound struck him.

According to the CHP’s Ventura-area office, the driver allegedly drove onto the shoulder and struck Centeno from behind with the right front of his truck for an unknown reason.

According to fire Capt. Brian McGrath, bystanders performed CPR while Ventura County Fire Department units were en route, but Centeno died at the scene.

According to McGrath, the driver remained at the scene.

According to the CHP, Officer D. Matthews noticed the driver showing signs of intoxication. The man was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision transpired around 9:20 a.m. off Highway 101 south of Solimar Beach.

A vehicle traveling in the opposite direction of the bike lane suddenly swerved to the right and collided with a female pedestrian standing in the bike lane. In the collision, a Chevrolet pickup truck was involved.

There is no more information that can be provided at this time.
