Fatal Bicycle Accident Statistics

Bicycles are regarded as vehicles under California law. Bicyclists, on the other hand, must act just like they would while operating a motor vehicle. They must ride in a straight line and obey all traffic laws, which include stopping at red lights.

Unfortunately, many motorists disregard cyclists’ rights and ride dangerously close to them. Accidents and even deaths may result from this. This may result in mishaps or even fatalities.

The most recent statistics show California has the highest national rate of fatal bicycle accidents. Urban areas, where the two forms of transportation frequently collide, are where these accidents occur most often.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were roughly 455 bicycle fatalities in California between 2016 and 2018.

In California, collisions with motor vehicles are the most common cause of bicycle-related injuries and fatalities. They might have prevented this accident if the driver had yielded the right of way, looked for bikes before pulling out, or was otherwise disinterested in the road.
