[08-12-2022] Ventura County, CA - County Supervisor Carmen Ramirez Struck and Killed by Truck in Oxnard's Heritage SquareAccording to the authorities, a truck hit Carmen Ramirez, the first Latina Supervisor of Ventura County and a longtime activist, while she was walking to a concert in downtown Oxnard’s Heritage Square Friday night, August 12, 2022.

The crash transpired at about 6:45 p.m. at Seventh and A streets in downtown Oxnard. Police Chief Jason Benites said the vehicle’s driver remained cooperative at the scene.

Ramirez, 73, was taken to Ventura County Medical Center, where, according to the chief, she was pronounced dead at 7:17 p.m.

According to the preliminary investigation, a large truck driven by a 38-year-old man was moving west on Seventh Street toward A Street. Ramirez was reportedly crossing the street in the crosswalk when hit by a car.

They claimed that the truck had hit her as it was moving west. Roadway markings for the police were orange.

Antonio Delgado, the owner of the Four Elements Crystal Shop in the corner of the establishment near the crash, and others flagged down a nearby policeman after arriving at the scene of the collision quickly, not immediately knowing who had been hit.

Before paramedics arrived, witnesses claimed that a doctor who had been at Heritage Square came and checked the patient’s pulse.

Investigations into the collision are still ongoing.
