[08-12-2022] Ventura County, CA- Ventura County Supervisor Killed in Pick-up Truck Accident in OxnardAccording to the Oxnard Police Department, the Ventura County Board of Supervisors chair, Carmen R., died after being hit by a pick-up truck in Oxnard on Friday night, August 12, 2022.

According to the authorities, Ramirez, 73, was hit by a 2020 GMC Sierra around 6:40 p.m. on Friday near the intersection of West Seventh and South A streets in downtown Oxnard.

She was walking in a crosswalk when she was hit. She was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital and died from her injuries.

The driver of the Sierra, a 38-year-old man, stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

According to the Camarillo Acorn, Ramirez was the first Latina to be named chair of the Board of Supervisors, and she was remembered at the vigil for her concern for others.

She said Ramirez believed in getting kids involved in all kinds of activities and making sure those activities were kept alive in their community.

Ramirez served on the Oxnard City Council for ten years and regional boards such as the Ventura County Air Pollution Control District and the Southern California Association of Governments.

She is an attorney who served as president of the Ventura County Bar Association in 1998 and on the State Bar Board of Governors from 2005 to 2008.

After her death was announced Friday night, tributes from government agencies and elected officials poured in.

U.S. Rep. Julia Brownley also paid tribute to Ramirez on Twitter, calling her one of the county’s “most loved and admired citizens.”
