The aftermath of a vehicle accident can make it difficult for you to think clearly. Nevertheless, what you say and do at the scene might affect the outcome of your claim. Here are some suggestions that might help you prevent actions that might diminish the value of your personal injury claim:

  1. As soon as an accident happens, contact the authorities and ensure an accident report is generated.
  2. Make sure you take pictures of your wounds, the location, any damage to your property, the weather, the condition of the road, and any vehicle that hit you.
  3. Take pictures of the driver’s license, insurance card, and license plate of the responsible driver.
  4. Gather the names and contact information of anyone who witnessed the incident or observed anything relevant.
  5. Make sure you seek medical attention immediately and notify your healthcare provider of any affected areas.
  6. Write down your injuries, how you feel, what medical care you receive, and any expenses you incur as you recover.
  7. Avoid communicating with the insurance adjuster or accepting a settlement proposal until you have spoken with an attorney. Don’t admit fault, either. It is one of the most common mistakes people make after a vehicular accident.

Pedestrian injuries and fatalities remain high throughout the country. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that 7,388 pedestrians were killed and 60,000 injured in 2021. As compared with last year, this is an alarming 13% increase.

It is important to note that this concerning rate of pedestrian accidents isn’t due to the government’s failure to address it. As part of a program to improve pedestrian safety, the California Department of Transportation is building more roundabouts and funding pedestrian assessments in cities with high collision rates. Furthermore, pedestrian safety education has seen a 40% increase in funding over the past three years.

Motorists failing to yield to pedestrians or braking abruptly can result in pedestrian deaths and injuries. When intending to file a legal claim, it is advisable to consult an experienced lawyer.

According to the Transportation Injury Mapping System, Rocklin tallied 10 pedestrian-related deaths or injuries in 2023.
