[08-16-2022] Mendocino County, CA - One dead, Another Injured in a Rollover Crash on Highway 162A driver was injured, and a passenger was killed in a rollover crash on Highway 162 on Tuesday, August 16, 2022.

The crash occurred at around 1:20 a.m. on SR-162 west of milepost 8.30.

Jose Piedra V. was driving a red Ford Ranger eastbound with a passenger sitting in the front right passenger seat.

The Ford Ranger left the north highway edge for unknown reasons, shot into the air, and then overturned many times while going down a steep slope.

The driver was ejected from the Ford Ranger while it was flipping over. The Ford Ranger then came to rest on its roof, and the accident caused the passenger to suffer fatal injuries. The passenger’s name was not yet revealed, pending a response from his family.

The driver was airlifted to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital to receive treatment for his moderate injuries.

The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Department, the Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Laytonville Fire Department, the Little Lake Fire Department, and the California Highway Patrol responded to the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
