According to the police, a 67-year-old man died after being hit while riding a bicycle in Fullerton, while the car’s driver fled on Thursday, August 18, 2022.
According to Fullerton Police Department, Capt. Jon Radus, officers were dispatched to Chapman Avenue and Ladera Vista Drive around 5 a.m. Thursday “regarding a fatal hit and run traffic collision involving a bicyclist and a Ford F-250.
Radus said they discovered the badly injured bicyclist in a brick planter on the north side of the street. The bicyclist was taken to the hospital and died there. His identity has been withheld pending notification of his relatives.
Officers were dispatched shortly after receiving a call from a witness who had followed a green 1999 Ford F-250 westbound on Chapman near Berkeley Avenue that was missing a tire and still moving on a rim, according to Radus.
According to Radus, the witness followed the driver to Delphine and Jacaranda Places, where the pickup driver got out and fled.
“The driver of the Ford F-250 contacted Fullerton PD Accident Investigators at the Fullerton PD Front Desk late (Thursday) afternoon,” Radus said. “After further investigation and interviews, Jonathan Ocampo, 21, of Anaheim, was arrested.”
Radus said Ocampo was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter.
