[08-20-2022] Passengers Injured Following a Suspected DUI Collision on Highway 99The 25-year-old and 23-year-old passengers of a suspected DUI driver were seriously injured after a crash on Highway 99 in Merced on Saturday, August 20, 2022.

According to CHP Officer Eric Zuniga, authorities responded to Highway 99 at approximately 11:25 p.m. at Childs Avenue for a solo-vehicle rollover crash.

22-year-old Luis Enrique Martinez Lorenzo of Merced was driving a 2006 Honda Accord north in the No. 1 lane of Highway 99, just south of Childs Avenue. He made an improper lane change while attempting to enter the No. 2 lane, causing the car to crash and overturn.

The vehicle’s passengers were transported to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.

Lorenzo refused treatment at the scene and was brought to a hospital for medical clearance before being arrested on suspicion of DUI.

According to jail records, Lorenzo was booked into the Merced County Jail on Sunday on charges of felony DUI with alcohol or narcotics causing bodily harm and DUI with alcohol causing bodily injury.

The accident remains under investigation.
