Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash Statistics

Many drivers are unaware that single-vehicle collisions are among California’s most hazardous car accidents.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), single-vehicle accidents cause 62% of all fatal automobile collisions in California (NHTSA). Drivers in California need to be aware of all the factors contributing to the high rate of single-vehicle crashes.

Various factors can lead to a single-vehicle collision. A driver loses control of their car while speeding or making sudden turns on a slick, wet road, which results in a run-off-the-road crash. Debris, such as a big branch or something that fell off a truck, can be seen on the road.

Your comprehensive coverage plan will most likely limit your recovery in a single-car accident brought on by an event other than your or another driver’s negligence.

Orange County Car Accident Lawyers

Many motorists return to work or school due to injuries. A negligent driver’s responsibility is still owed even if a victim dies. Victims’ surviving family members may bring a wrongful death claim against the negligent driver who killed the victim (or their legal heirs).

It hurts them to go through their sorrows and losses again. In depositions and courtroom proceedings, victims must speak in front of strangers about their losses. It may significantly impact one’s mental health by the time it takes for a case to be resolved—months or even years.

It is essential to hold negligent drivers accountable if they cause an accident. Accountability is crucial when negligence results in an unnecessarily high death toll. For grieving families, wrongful death claims can be emotionally taxing and bring about closure. This will benefit every driver in California.
