[08-20-2024] Marin County, CA – One Killed, Another Injured After Head-On Collision on Nicasio Valley Road

A head-on collision in rural Marin County left one person dead and another injured on Tuesday morning, August 20, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 8:00 a.m. on Nicasio Valley Road, just north of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard.

First responders arrived at the scene to find one person unconscious and trapped in their vehicle. The individual was pronounced dead shortly after. The person in the other vehicle reported experiencing pain.

The CHP and the Marin County Coroner’s Office are investigating the incident. The coroner’s office is working to notify the deceased person’s family before releasing their name.

In Madera County, 1,128 people died or were injured in traffic accidents in 2021, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS). Thirty-two of these traffic victims were pedestrians. Additionally, 180 involved alcohol, while 211 were overspeeding cases.

The National Safety Council (NSC) estimated 44,450 fatal crashes in 2023. It is a 4% decrease from 2022 when 46,270 people died from motor vehicle accidents. Angle crashes led to around 9,000 deaths, followed by head-on collisions with an estimated 5,900 fatalities.
