Truck Accident Statistics

Large trucks operate differently than smaller vehicles. They have wider turning radiuses, slower stopping speeds, and a propensity to roll over. Inadequate driver training, a lack of ability, and poorly maintained trucks can all lead to disastrous accidents.

Every year, 4,050 large trucks are involved in fatal collisions involving other vehicles across the country. Injuries were caused by another 87,000 large trucks. These deaths and injuries could have been avoided if the drivers had exercised proper care and attention.

Truck drivers and companies must follow several federal vehicle maintenance, cargo security, service hours, and driver training regulations. The FMCSA has hundreds of pages of trucking industry rules and regulations. If any of these rules are broken, resulting in a truck accident, the victim(s) may have grounds to sue for negligence.
