According to the Fontana Police Department, a pedestrian, later identified as 64-year-old Seferino C., was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Thursday, August 25, 2022.
The collision happened at 8:09 p.m. near Foothill Boulevard and Sultana Avenue.
Crispin was crossing the roadway when he was hit by a westbound vehicle.
San Bernardino County Fire/Medics transported Crispin to a nearby hospital, where he was later declared dead.
The involved driver did not pull over or call the police for help.
Public information officer Daniel Romero stated that the vehicle is a passenger car, possibly a Honda, and most likely has moderate damage to the front end.
The suspect car, which was last seen heading west from Foothill and Hemlock at the time of the incident, is either gray or gold.
Police are now asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the offender.
Hit-and-Run Accident Statistics
Most of California’s hit-and-run laws are codified in Vehicle Codes 20001 and 20002. It is a crime to flee the scene of a car accident where another person has been injured or killed. A violation of this law can result in felony charges and up to one year in county jail.
It is a crime under VC 20002 to flee the scene of an accident without stopping and providing identifying information when the accident only causes property damage and no injuries to another party.
Hit-and-run accidents happen when at least one person involved in a collision leaves the scene without giving aid to another or when the accident is not properly reported.
According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, California had 337 hit-and-run fatalities in 2010, 60% greater than the deaths recorded ten years earlier.
