A 49-year-old driver was killed after a suspected DUI driver went the wrong way on state Route 52 in the Miramar region on Friday, August 26, 2022.
The crash occurred shortly after 2:30 a.m. on the westbound side of the freeway close to Interstate 805.
The victim was traveling west when an eastbound Chevrolet pickup collided with his Honda sedan.
The El Cajon resident driver died at the collision scene. His identity was kept confidential until his family was informed.
According to CHP public affairs officer Jesse Matias, the driver of the pickup, a 23-year-old San Diego woman, was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor wounds before being detained on suspicion of drunk driving. She didn’t immediately reveal who she was.
According to Matias, traffic lanes had to be closed until 8 a.m.
The accident remains under investigation.
