A pedestrian was struck and killed by a Huntington Beach police officer in a service vehicle responding to a radio call in Sunset Beach Saturday, August 27, 2022.
According to Orange County Sheriff’s Sgt. Scott Steinle, the crash occurred at 5:40 a.m. on North Pacific Avenue and Broadway in Huntington Beach.
Sgt. Scott Steinle of the Orange County sheriff’s office said the pedestrian was a 45-year-old man from Rancho Palos Verdes named Derrick F.
Investigators were still trying to figure out what happened before the accident.
The CHP said in a press release that paramedics took the man to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.
In the news release, the officer was named Robert M., 22. He was reportedly driving a Huntington Beach Police Department Ford Explorer.
A press release said that the CHP was looking into the crash because a car from the city of Huntington Beach was involved.
