Pedestrian Accident Statistics
In the United States, pedestrian accidents happen all the time. In 2013, 4,735 people died while walking. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that every two hours, one pedestrian is killed, and another pedestrian is hurt every eight minutes.
Pedestrians are more likely than any other road user to die or get hurt in an accident. Most of these deaths happen in cities, where people walk more often to get where they need to go.
Pedestrian accidents can happen for a lot of different reasons. Some pedestrians might not pay attention to what’s happening around them and might not know that cars are coming. Others may be crossing the street in an area where they aren’t supposed to or traveling when the signal says not to. Cars may also blame if they go too fast or don’t see people in time.
No matter what caused the accident, both drivers and pedestrians need to do things to keep themselves safe. Watch out for pedestrians at all times, especially when turning or stopping. People on foot should watch out for cars and only cross streets when it is safe.
Kern County Pedestrian Accident Lawyers
Accidents involving pedestrians can be terrible and often lead to severe injuries. If you were hurt when a car hit you while you were walking, you might be able to file a claim against the driver who hit you. When you file a claim for a pedestrian accident, there are a few things to keep in mind:
First, make sure you get help from a doctor right away. You should still go to the doctor even if you don’t think you’re hurt. Many injuries from accidents with pedestrians don’t show up immediately and can take time to show.
Second, gather evidence at the scene of the accident. Take photos of the accident scene and the cars involved. Find out how to get in touch with any witnesses. This evidence will help support your claim later on.
Lastly, talk to a lawyer. A personal injury lawyer can help you file your claim and tell you what to expect as the process goes on. At Arash Law, our team of hardworking lawyers is committed to helping pedestrians who have been hurt get the compensation they deserve.
