[08-30-2022] Marin County, CA – Unidentified Pedestrian Struck and Killed on Marin Highway 101

[08-30-2022] Unidentified Pedestrian Struck and Killed on Marin Highway 101According to the California Highway Patrol, an unidentified pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle in the southbound lanes of Marin Highway 101 Tuesday, August 30, 2022.

The pedestrian had been struck at around 4:35 a.m. in the southbound lanes of Highway 101 in Sausalito at the Spencer Avenue off-ramp.

The California Highway Patrol had to close three of the four lanes, which made the morning rush hour longer.

The CHP said its dispatch center got calls from drivers who had to take action to get around a person in a dark hoodie on the road.

Investigators say that a Dodge Caravan was driving in the third lane when the man stepped in front of it and was hit. At the scene, he was said to be dead. The driver pulled over and worked with the CHP.

The Marin County coroner was also dispatched to the scene. The reason for the crash is still being looked into.

Pedestrian Accident Statistics

The NHTSA report says that every two hours, a pedestrian is killed by a car. Also, a vehicle hits a pedestrian every eight minutes and hurts them.

Every year, about 110,000 people are hurt on foot in the United States. The NHTSA thinks that 6 227 pedestrians died in 2018, which is 250 more than in 2017.

People on foot have the right of way in crosswalks, even if the crosswalk isn’t marked. Even though pedestrians have the privilege, they still have to follow all traffic laws. When you get close to a crossing, you need to slow down and be extra careful to keep pedestrians safe.

Pedestrians must always follow safety rules to avoid getting hit by a car. Even though there’s no way to know that an accident won’t happen, following safety tips make it much less likely that you’ll be blamed if it does.

Even if pedestrians are careful and follow all traffic laws, they can still get into an accident. It is harder to walk defensively than it is to drive defensively. When a car goes fast, it’s much harder for people on the street to run away from danger.
