[08-30-2024] Two People Hospitalized After Multi-Vehicle Fiery Crash in RichmondTwo people were hospitalized after a multi-vehicle fiery crash in Richmond on Friday night, August 30, 2024.

The incident occurred around 10:00 p.m. on Interstate 80 near the San Pablo border after the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a possible stolen Hummer.

Deputies initiated a traffic stop as the vehicle entered eastbound I-80 at El Portal Drive, but the driver accelerated, refusing to yield, leading to a brief pursuit. The pursuit was terminated when the suspect began driving in the wrong direction.

Approximately 30 seconds after the pursuit ended, the suspect vehicle crashed into two other cars, causing multiple vehicles to catch fire.

The suspect was taken into custody and later booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on several charges, including felony evading, hit-and-run, vehicle theft, and drug possession.

Two adults and a juvenile in one of the vehicles struck by the suspect were taken to local hospitals. As of Saturday afternoon, their conditions were not known.
