[08-31-2022] One Person Dead in Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash on Interstate-80 in RichmondOne person died after an Amazon truck in a two-vehicle crash caught on fire and closed lanes for several hours on Interstate Highway 80 near Richmond on Wednesday morning, August 31, 2022.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred just before 3:00 a.m. on eastbound I-80 by Hilltop Drive.

There were also reports that a car had hit the divider in the middle of the road and that a second car had flipped on its roof, causing the two cars to merge.

The CHP log showed that there could have been even more cars involved. At least one car is being taken away by a tow truck.

By 5 a.m., the Contra Costa County coroner had arrived at the scene, and the CHP had asked for a patient to be taken by air.

The reason for the crash is still being looked into.
