Statistics on Fatal Hit-and-Run Accidents
Every year, hit-and-run automobile accidents claim the lives of thousands of people. In fact, according to recent statistics, hit-and-run accidents are the leading cause of death for pedestrians in the United States.
While hit-and-runs make up only a tiny percentage of overall automobile accidents, they account for a disproportionate number of fatalities.
The reason for this is simple: when a driver flees the scene of an accident, they leave the victim without medical or legal assistance.
As a result, hit-and-run accidents often result in serious injuries or death.
According to recent statistics, hit-and-run accidents are on the rise, and they are now responsible for a growing number of fatalities each year. In 2016, hit-and-run accidents accounted for nearly 2,000 deaths in the United States in 2016, an increase of 60% from 2009.
If a hit-and-run incident involves an automobile accident, it is essential to contact the police as soon as possible. By reporting the accident, you can help ensure that the responsible party is held accountable for their actions.
