Pedestrian Accident Statistics

Pedestrian accidents in Los Angeles are prevalent. These accidents often happen at night when the city streets are busy and the freeways are full of motorists rushing toward their destination.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 4,735 pedestrians were killed in traffic incidents in the United States in 2013. During the same year, 150,000 pedestrians were hurt, and medical attention was provided. In 2017, 45% of the deaths in Los Angeles were due to pedestrian accidents.

It’s important to remember that pedestrian accidents are almost always 100 percent preventable. In most cases, they are caused by reckless or distracted drivers who fail to yield the right of way to pedestrians. But pedestrians can also be at fault, especially if they’re not paying attention while crossing the street. No matter who is at fault, the best way to prevent pedestrian accidents is for drivers and pedestrians to be more aware of their surroundings and to follow the rules of the road.
