Statistics in Fatal Workplace Accident

Few jobs or environments pose a severe risk to employees, but plenty does. Manufacturing, agriculture, construction, and transportation workers are most vulnerable to accidents.

Over 4,500 American workers are killed or seriously injured on the job each year, according to OSHA estimates.

Despite a decline in workers’ compensation claims, workplace fatalities have not decreased: There were 5,333 fatal workplace accidents in 2018, a 2% increase from 2017. Since 2010, the death rate has been steadily increasing.

Car accidents, object falling or moving, or homicide is the most frequent causes of work-related fatalities. Falls and overexertion from lifting and moving heavy objects are the two leading causes of non-fatal injuries at work.
