Statistics on Big Rig Accidents
A big rig collision is one of the most severe accidents a truck driver can experience.
Many factors are involved in these types of wrecks, but they all center on how well you know your vehicle.
The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) keeps records of all significant rig accidents in the state. In 2017 alone, there were more than 1 million truck-related traffic accidents throughout CA, with 24 people killed and almost 200 injured just last month.
California’s significant truck collision rate increased by 3% over the past year alone. This increase is most likely due to an aging population and more drivers on roads, which has led to many collisions involving trucks or buses being reported each month.
The best way to ensure your big rig is secure on any road is to perform regular maintenance checks, but what about when you’re not using it? For a truck or trailer’s brakes and lights to work correctly, they need regular maintenance. Suppose this isn’t done at least once every few months. In that case, those safety features can fail unexpectedly, which may lead to an accident with another vehicle causing great bodily harm mentally and physically if nothing else goes wrong during these times.
