[09-04-2022] San Joaquin, CA - Two-Vehicle Collision Results in One Death in StocktonOne person died after a fatal two-vehicle collision in Stockton on Sunday morning, September 4, 2022.

At around 10 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Pershing Avenue and Venetian Drive.

The driver of one of the vehicles, among those transported to the hospital, reportedly passed away from his injuries.

Local authorities took another group of people to one of the nearby hospitals for medical attention. A police spokesperson could not confirm the number of patients brought in or their health status.

According to police, traffic investigators are still looking into the collision.

Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash Statistics

According to the National Safety Council, two-vehicle statistics are the leading cause of motor vehicle crash deaths in the United States.

According to the California Highway Patrol, there were 196 fatal two-vehicle crashes in San Joaquin County in 2016. This is more than 20 percent from the previous year when 164 fatal two-vehicle crashes were reported.

Most of these fatal crashes occurred on rural roads, with only 33 on urban streets. Of the rural crashes, 111 involved a head-on collision, while 55 involved a sideswipe or overlap collision.

In terms of vehicle types, cars were involved in the majority of fatal crashes (144), followed by SUVs (31) and pickup trucks (20). Pedestrians accounted for six fatalities, while cyclists and motorcyclists accounted for one fatality each.
