According to the California Highway Patrol, a driver and his dog died, and a passenger is in critical condition after a single-vehicle crash off Highway 50 on Monday morning in Rancho Cordova.
The crash occurred just before 7:00 a.m. along the 10900 block of Sun Center Drive in Rancho Cordova.
The CHP says it looks like drugs and alcohol were involved in the crash.
Metro Fire of Sacramento says that a car went off the highway and crashed. It then hit several trees before stopping in the 10900 block of Sun Center Drive against an empty building.
Investigators say that the car was speeding and driving recklessly before it crashed.
The two people who were in the car at the time were taken to the hospital by first responders. The driver, a man from Roseville who was 39 years old, died later.
A man from Oxnard who is 47 years old is still in the hospital with serious injuries.
Metro Fire says that paramedics also found the dog dead.
Single-Vehicle Crash Statistics
In California, a shockingly high number of people die yearly in single-car accidents.
The Department of Transportation sets road speed limits based on several factors. “No one may drive a vehicle at a speed that puts people or property in danger,” says California Vehicle Code 22350.
Sections 22348 to 22413 of the California Vehicle Code say how fast you can go in California (CVC). The speed limit on roads in Sacramento County is not posted, but it is 55 mph.
The rest of the speed limits are “prima facie” limits, meaning they seem reasonable and wise on the surface. The speed limit should be 15 mph in alleys, blind corners, railroad crossings, and 25 mph in business and residential areas.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that 62% of fatal car accidents in California are caused by one car hitting another. If you drive in California, there are a few things you should be aware of that could lead to an accident.
Many different things can cause accidents with only one car. A runaway car, also called an off-the-road accident, is more likely to happen when the driver is going too fast or making sharp turns on a wet road. The road was full of branches and other things thrown from passing trucks.
Comprehensive insurance is more likely to cover a single-car accident that wasn’t caused by your or the other driver’s carelessness.
Sacramento County Car Accident Lawyers
Even if it kills someone else, reckless driving is still illegal, and almost no one who is hurt in a car accident can go back to work or school. Accident victims whose deaths were caused by another driver’s negligence can file a wrongful death claim.
The victims have to testify in front of large crowds during depositions and trials while remembering their past sorrows and losses. Unresolved legal matters can be harmful to people’s mental health.
You need to act quickly to hold a driver responsible for a car accident. When carelessness leads to too many deaths, someone must be held accountable. Even though it can be challenging, families who have lost a loved one can benefit from filing a wrongful death lawsuit. This choice will have a significant effect on California drivers.
