The collision happened around 7:55 p.m. on Fourth Street.

According to Hollister Police Chief Carlos Reynoso, an automobile traveling eastbound through the intersection of Graf Road struck a pedestrian.

The driver did not immediately see the pedestrian in the roadway and attempted to avoid a collision at the last moment.

Officers learned from witnesses that the pedestrian was not walking in a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision.

According to police, the pedestrian died at the scene. Authorities have not released the identity of the pedestrian.

According to Reynoso, police do not believe alcohol played a role in the collision. The vehicle’s driver has been cooperative with investigators.

The road was closed for several hours while police investigated the scene.

Hollister Police are still investigating the collision.
