Fatal Motorcycle Crash Statistics

Even though motorcycles only make up a small part of the total number of vehicles sold, they are responsible for many traffic deaths in the United States. Even if someone doesn’t die in a motorcycle accident, it can be bad for their long-term health and well-being.

Since the early 1980s, deaths on motorcycles have decreased, but they increased in 1998 and stayed the same until 2008.

The Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) of the US Department of Transportation says that 5014 motorcyclists died in crashes in 2019.

Accidents with motorcycles often happen when the driver is distracted, drunk, careless, in bad weather, going the wrong way, or not following traffic laws.

Helmets keep your head from getting seriously hurt. 37% of the time, helmets can keep motorcyclists from getting into accidents. But the rest of their bodies might still be vulnerable.

Many motorcycle accidents can be avoided if riders are careful, wear protective gear, and stay out of the blind spots of larger vehicles.
