[09-05-2022] 59-Year-Old Man Killed, Two Others Injured in Fatal Motorcycle Accident in VisaliaA 59-year-old rider was killed, and two other people sustained injuries in a fatal traffic collision in Tulare County on Monday, September 5, 2022.

According to the Fresno Communication Center (FCC), the crash occurred around 12:44 p.m. on State Route 63 north of Ira Ave.

CHP Visalia Area officers responded to the scene and started an investigation into the collision.

According to the initial investigation, D. Torres Chavez, 69, the driver of a 2005 Toyota, was stopped at the west curb edge of SR-63 while traveling south.

A 2005 Yamaha motorcycle carrying a 59-year-old driver and a 49-year-old passenger was traveling south on State Route 63 in the first lane when it came to the Toyota at a speed of about 35 mph. Chavez made an unsafe turn from the west curb edge, across both southbound lanes, and directly into the path of the Yamaha, causing the collision.

The Yamaha struck the Toyota’s driver’s side head-on. The motorcycle’s rider and his passenger were thrown from it and hit the road. Chavez sustained minor injuries in the collision.

The rider succumbed to his wounds and died while being transported to the hospital by ground ambulance.

The Yamaha passenger sustained major injuries and was transported to Kaweah Health Medical Center.
