Fatal Motorcycle Crash Statistics
Your safety when operating a motorcycle frequently depends on how to alert other motorists. Some motorists refuse to acknowledge or acknowledge that cyclists have the same rights as motorists. Even though they often cannot determine a biker’s speed, they continue. Drivers frequently block a biker’s right of way when turning or changing lanes.
Motorcycle riders are involved in 11% of all traffic accidents in the US, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). There were 4,985 motorcycle fatalities and 82,000 motorcycle injuries in 2018.
Since motorcycle riders are 16 times more likely to be hurt or killed in a car accident than passengers in enclosed vehicles, this statistic is not shocking.
Helmets can aid in preventing severe head injuries. Helmets have been shown to reduce motorcycle fatalities by 37%. However, the rest of their bodies could still be in danger.
Speeding, driving while intoxicated, driving in poor weather, driving the wrong way, and breaking traffic laws are all common causes of motorcycle accidents.
