According to the CHP, a woman from Lamont died after a vehicle crash involving a big rig on Copus Road Wednesday morning, September 7, 2022.
The accident happened around 6:45 a.m. on Copus Road, west of I-5, Buttonwillow.
Elvira L., 55, was operating a 2004 Ford when she attempted to pass a big rig by moving into the eastbound lane, but CHP says she did not have enough room when she re-entered the westbound lane.
While attempting to re-enter the westbound lane, Lopez collided with the big rig being operated by Juan L., 43. She subsequently lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road, and overturned.
According to CHP, Elvira’s passenger suffered fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene. Her identity hasn’t been made public yet.
Lopez was brought to a hospital for treatment after sustaining moderate injuries. At the same time, Ledezma sustained only minor wounds.
