According to the authorities, one construction worker died, and another was critically hurt in a traffic collision on Interstate 5 in Sacramento, close to the Land Park neighborhood, Wednesday night, September 7, 2022.
The crash occurred around 6:30 p.m. at the Sutterville Road off-ramp.
According to Caltrans representatives and the California Highway Patrol’s South Sacramento office, two workers were setting up cones and a sign to indicate night work at the Sutterville Road off-ramp when a Toyota Sienna minivan traveling northbound on I-5 struck them.
The van struck the two workers who were standing outside the pickup truck as well as the vehicle. According to a CHP news release, one worker was declared dead at the scene, and the other was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
According to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office, Roseann G., 34, of Wheatland, was the worker who passed away.
According to the CHP, the injured employee is a 54-year-old Sacramento man. A 30-year-old man from Washington state was operating the van. He had no wounds.
According to CHP officials, it is thought that the Toyota was in the No. 2 or No. 3 lane of the northbound I-5 when it swerved across three or four lanes and ended up on the right shoulder.
According to a CHP news release, drugs and alcohol are not thought to have played a role in the collision, and the Toyota driver was not detained. According to Dennis Keaton, a local Caltrans spokesman, the two workers were subcontracted by the company.
According to Benipal, the collision occurred as the two contractors were installing signage on the right shoulder.
The CHP claims that the pair was completely within the right shoulder when they were struck while setting up cones and a changeable message sign outside of their pickup truck.
As CHP officials looked into the collision, the three right lanes of the northbound I-5 were shut down until after 3:00 a.m. on Thursday.
