Fatal Motorcycle Crash Statistics

Even though motorcycles only make up a small percentage of all vehicles sold, they are responsible for many traffic deaths in the United States. Even if someone doesn’t die in a motorcycle accident, it can still harm their health and well-being in the long run.

Deaths on motorcycles had been going down since the early 1980s, but they started to go up in 1998 and stayed the same until 2008.

The US Department of Transportation’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) says 5014 motorcyclists died in crashes in 2019.

Common causes of motorcycle accidents are driving while distracted, driving while drunk, driving recklessly, bad weather, driving the wrong way, and not following traffic laws.

Helmets work to stop your head from getting hurt badly. 37% of the time, helmets can prevent motorcycle accidents. But the rest of their bodies might still be easy to attack.

Many motorcycle accidents can be avoided if riders are careful, wear safety gear, and stay out of the blind spots of oversized vehicles.
