Hit-and-Run Accident Statistics
A driver hitting a pedestrian and leaving the scene is a hit-and-run accident. Sacramento’s rate of hit-and-run accidents has steadily climbed over the previous decade. The fact that victims of this sort of accident may have been saved if prompt medical attention had been provided is heartbreaking.
There had been an average of 682,000 hit-and-run incidents each year during the past years, with 737,100 occurring in 2015. In Sacramento, there were a total of 2,233 hit-and-run accidents from 2017 to 2018. According to ValuePenguin, fatal hit-and-runs climbed from 1,342 in 2010 to 1,939 in 2019.
There are several reasons why someone might choose to flee the scene of a hit-and-run accident. They may be afraid of getting in trouble with the law, or they may not have insurance and be worried about getting sued. Whatever the reason, hit-and-run accidents are illegal and can result in severe penalties for the driver.
If you are injured in a hit-and-run accident, you may be able to file a claim against the driver’s insurance company. However, these cases can be difficult to win, so having an experienced personal injury lawyer is important.
