An unidentified motorcyclist was severely injured as a result of a collision involving a car and a motorcycle on Bear Valley Road in Victorville on Thursday night, September 8, 2022.
The crash occurred at 9:53 p.m. east of Pacoima Road.
When Victorville Fire arrived on the scene, they asked for a helicopter to fly the driver of a black 2020 Harley Davidson motorcycle to a trauma center outside of the immediate area.
According to deputies, both the vehicle and the rider were moving west on Bear Valley Road.
In addition, the motorcycle was traveling quickly when it crashed into the back of the silver Kia sedan, ejecting the driver.
A Mercy Air helicopter then transported the rider to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center by air.
Between Mall Boulevard and Pacoima Road, Bear Valley Road was shut down as deputies took pictures and tow trucks picked up the cars.
There are no other details available.
The crash remains under investigation.
Motorcycle Accident Statistics
There were 5,014 deaths involving motorcyclists in 2016, as reported by the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) of the United States Department of Transportation. The early 1980s established a downward trend, but beginning in 1998, a rise was seen that lasted until 2008.
Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show that motorcyclists have a whopping 16 times higher risk of injury and 35 times higher risk of death in a collision than car occupants.
Nearly two-thirds of motorcycle accidents at intersections are caused by cars not seeing the motorcycle. As a result of their reduced size, motorcycles are more prone to collisions.
The majority of the roads in California can be found on the “Top 100 Motorcycle Roads” page of motorcycleroads.com. There are more motorcycles registered in this state than in any other in the country. Close to 800,000 motorcycles have been registered in the state.
