[09-10-2022] Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Vehicle on Interstate 580According to the California Highway Patrol, a pedestrian on Interstate 580 died after being hit by a vehicle as it drove through Oakland Saturday evening, September 10, 2022.

According to Karina Oseguera, a spokeswoman for the Highway Patrol, the pedestrian was struck around 9:15 p.m. on the westbound lanes of Interstate 580, just west of Highway 24.

Due to the need to notify the deceased person’s next of kin, the name of the person killed has not been made public.

According to Oseguera, it seemed as though nobody inside the vehicle that had hit the pedestrian had sustained any injuries.

A scant amount of additional information regarding the crash has been made public. The collision resulted in the temporary closing of Interstate 580; however, the freeway has since reopened to traffic.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
