DUI Accident Statistics
Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is a serious offense that can have tragic consequences. Every day, innocent people are injured or killed in accidents caused by drunk drivers. These deaths have fallen by a third in the last three decades. However, drunk-driving crashes claim more than 10,000 lives per year. In 2010, the most recent year for which data is available, nearly one-third of all traffic crash fatalities in the United States involved a drunk driver.
The best way to prevent these accidents is never to get behind the wheel after drinking or using drugs. However, if you must drive, take precautions such as appointing a designated driver or calling a cab. Remember, even a small amount of alcohol can impair your judgment and reaction time, so it is always better to avoid caution.
If you suspect someone is driving under the influence, do not hesitate to report it to the authorities. By taking action, you could help save a life. By taking these simple steps, you can help make our roads safer for everyone.
