Pedestrian Accident Statistics
Being a pedestrian has certain hazards. Pedestrian accidents are a problem, particularly in California, where the climate in several state areas encourages year-round outdoor activities.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), one pedestrian is killed in accidents every two hours. In the United States, around 110,000 pedestrians are harmed each year.
The NHTSA ranked California 11th in the United States for pedestrian deaths in 2018. Furthermore, in the first half of 2019, pedestrian traffic deaths in our state increased by 13%. 470 pedestrian fatalities were reported in 2021, up from 463 in 2020 and 460 in 2019.
These statistics reveal an alarming number of families who have experienced the devastating loss of a loved one due to a pedestrian accident. We should be cautious when we go out to avoid accidents like these.
